林学院源于1938年的云南大学森林系，1978年招收硕士研究生，1981年获硕士学位授权点，2013年获一级学科博士学位授权点，2014年获林业专业硕士学位授权点，已形成从本科-硕士-博士的人才培养体系。形成林木遗传育种、森林培育、森林保护学、森林经理学为主干，生物多样性保护与森林健康、林业资源挖掘及产业化为特色的“4+2学科布局。学科在西南地区特色林木种质创新与森林资源高效培育、森林可持续经营及林业碳汇、林业有害生物智能监测与绿色防控、西南山地生物多样性保护、林下资源培育及利用等领域富有特色和优势。获得含国家科技进步二等奖在内的省部级以上教学和科技奖励近60项。学科紧密结合行业需求，开发的“智慧树医”“网上生物多样性博物馆”等平台在林业行业和自然保护区等领域广泛应用，竹林高效培育技术、林业碳汇精准计量和监测技术、林下中药材有机种植技术在省内外得到广泛推广。开展与英属哥伦比亚大学、泰国农业大学的国际交流活动，发挥亚太森林组织昆明中心的人才培养培训优势，服务“一带一路”，开展面向亚太地区20多个国家的培训和国际交流，组织国际培训24期，累计培训这些国家和地区的高中级林业管理人员300余人次，在亚太地区具有较高影响力。

The College of Forestry originated from the Forestry Department of Yunnan University in 1938, enrolled master's degree students in 1978, and was granted a master's degree authorization point in 1981, a first-level doctoral degree authorization point in 2013, and a professional master's degree(MSc) authorization point in forestry in 2014, which has formed a talent training system from undergraduate-master's-doctoral degree.

The "4+2" academic discipline layout features forest genetics and breeding, forest cultivation, forest protection, and forest management as the main branches, with biological diversity conservation and forest health, forestry resource exploitation and industrialization as the distinctive features.

The discipline is rich in characteristics and advantages in the fields of innovation of characteristic forest germplasm and efficient cultivation of forest resources in Southwest China, sustainable management of forests and carbon sinks in forestry, intelligent monitoring and green prevention and control of forestry pests, conservation of biodiversity in Southwest China's mountainous areas, and cultivation and utilization of understorey resources.

It has won nearly 60 teaching and science and technology awards at the provincial and ministerial levels, including the Second Prizefor National Scientific and Technological Progress.

Closely integrating with the needs of the industry, the discipline has developed plat forms such as“Wisdom Tree Doctor”and“Online Biodiversity Museum”, which are widely used in the forestry industry and nature reserves, etc. Efficient cultivation technology of bamboo forests, precise measurement and monitoring technology of forestry carbon sinks, and understorey Chinese herbs and organic cultivation technology have been popularized both inside and outside the province.

It carries out international exchange activities with the University of British Columbia and the Agricultural University of Thailand, gives full play to the talent training advantages of the Kunming Center of the Asia-Pacific Forestry Organization, serves the“BeltandRoad”, carries out training and international exchanges for more than 20 countries in the Asia-Pacificregion, and organizes 24 sessions of international training, which has accumulated a total of more than 300 senior and middle-level forestry managers from these countries and regions, which has a high influence in the Asia-Pacificregion.
